Uttar Pradesh police will now remain under strict vigil and will face consequences on uploading their videos on social media in uniform. Making reels, dubsmashes, or engaging in acting, dancing or singing while in the uniform will reportedly, result in fines.

A list of norms has been issued for cops active on social media. "Wherever an act of cops indulging in such reel surfaces, action as per rules will be taken by district police chief," an official said.

Police personnel are not permitted to record and/or upload videos during working hours, and in unform.

Additionally, decent language has to be used by the police on social media, the code of conduct said. They also cannot be involved in any kind of cyber bullying or harassment.

The norms have been issued in order to maintain order and discipline amongst law enforcement officers.

Cannot "compromise with the dignity of the uniform"

Recently, some cops were suspended for making reels on duty. The videos on social media of police personnel have increasingly surfaced and these posts can be accessed by general public easily, an official said. Due to this, a detailed code of conduct has been established.

Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, Prashant Kumar, said, "Anything that compromises with the dignity of the uniform will not be allowed. It is against the service conduct rules of the government."

The order also mentioned that if a police officer is on social media and using the platform outside of working hours, he or she will have to clear up that they're doing it for personal purposes.
