Following the nationwide ban on single-use plastics since July 1, the Lucknow Development Authority has marked all its parks as 'no-plastic' zones.

People visiting the Ambedkar Park, Janeshwar Mishra Park and other parks under the LDA in Lucknow will not be permitted to carry any polythene on the premises. A fine of ₹500 would be levied on all those violating the norms, officials said.

In an LDA meeting conducted on July 1, Vice Chairperson Dr Indramani Tripathi discussed the pan-India plastic ban initiative with officers of the Horticulture section, and decided to take charge and implement the same at all parks under their jurisdiction.

As per reports the VC reached the Janeshwar Mishra Park at 7 AM on Friday and urged all morning walkers to strictly say no to single-use plastic. People will not be allowed to carry disposable water bottles or snacks and workout gear in plastic polythene. They can either use high-quality plastic products or switch to cloth, jute, hemp or paper bags.

With this, he also discouraged the the practice of carrying or consuming gutka and cigarettes at city parks. For the implementation, the LDA has also marked the parks as 'no smoking zones'.

All those found smoking on the premises will be fined ₹500. The Authority has also announced regular checking campaigns at all parks to ensure that norms are being adhered to.
