Peepe Wala Pul of Lucknow: Once serene, now dilapidated, the pontoon bridge implores repair

If repaired and maintained well, the place will not only aid many commuters but also restore the once tranquil spot that it used to be.

Lucknow has its share of peaceful locations, giving the city-ites much-needed respite in between the humdrum of city life. And people have often taken shelter in these places in nature's lap that are surrounded by lush greenery and/or water bodies, etc.

Besides the famed Lucknow Zoo, Kukrail, Riverfront, Lucknow's varied ghats, there are certain offbeat bridges or dams where you'd find some people relaxing, spending some alone-time, staring in the abyss or just reflecting.

Do you relate? One such quaint spot is the lesser-known Peepe Wala Pul of Lucknow (or Pontoon bridge) located on Gomti river's Mehndi Ghat.

The current story of Peepe Wala Pul

Wooden sticks supported by peepe and surrounded by a serene lake — it used to be a respite-offering space once upon a time, perfect for a morning or evening session and connecting many areas of Lucknow.

However, with time, the pontoon bridge has dilapidated and currently poses a threat to life. Under ruins since the past 6-7 years, the wooden planks have broken from numerous places, with the river polluted and infested with algae, and so on. Countless people cross the bridge in their daily commuting routes and many have demanded the same to be repaired and renovated.

The bridge connects to areas like Daud Nagar, Gaura Bhit, Fazullaganj, Ghaila village, etc. If repaired and maintained well, the place will not only aid numerous commuters but also restore the once tranquil spot that Peepe Wala Pul used to be!
