In a significant development for commuters, prepaid taxi services at Lucknow's Charbagh Railway Station is set to resume. This initiative has been incorporated into the new tender process for the station’s parking facility, aiming to streamline passenger transportation.

Previously available at the station, the prepaid taxi service was discontinued in 2019. Since then, passengers have faced challenges due to the absence of fixed fare rates for private cabs and taxis. Many drivers have been demanding inflated fares, leading to inconvenience and safety concerns for travellers.

To ensure appropriate fares and passenger safety

Earlier, prepaid taxis were managed by the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Charbagh Railway Station, ensuring fair fares and instilling a sense of security among passengers. Similar measures are expected this time as well. Additionally, with technological advancements, features like GPS monitoring, safety alert systems, and live tracking (already in use with UPSRTC buses) could be integrated into the taxis to further enhance passenger safety.

Alongside the reintroduction of prepaid taxis, railway authorities are also set to implement improvements in the station’s parking system as part of the ongoing tender process.
