With the monsoon season reaching its peak in Uttar Pradesh, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for the upcoming 48 hrs due to anticipated heavy rain and thunderstorms.

This advisory has been issued for 30 districts across UP, including Kanpur Dehat, as well as the nearby districts of Lucknow such as Sitapur and Bijnor, among several others.

IMD's weather prediction for today

The ongoing heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh can be attributed to the presence of western disturbances which are further responsible for creating a low-pressure zone over the state.

Furthermore, the IMD has predicted moderate rain showers, ranging from 5 to 15 mm/hr, in addition to a moderate likelihood of cloud-to-ground lightning (30-60%) in Lucknow.

As for Kanpur, the city is expected to encounter light rain showers, with an intensity of less than 5 mm/hr, persisting throughout the day.
