Section 144 imposed in Lucknow & other districts of UP, in a bid to arrest the 2nd COVID-19 wave

In view of the soaring COVID numbers, the Uttar Pradesh government has imposed restrictions under section 144 in all 75 districts of the state, including the capital city Lucknow. This decision has been taken to prevent an unchecked spread of COVID-19 given that the panchayat elections are scheduled in the near future. Amidst a list of regulations issued through the order, gatherings of more than 5 individuals have been disallowed.

No more than 100 individuals at public and community spaces

The second wave of coronavirus is spreading like wildfire across all regions of the state. While 4,000 daily infections were recorded after almost 100 days in the previous year, the count has been surpassed within 30 days in 2021. As per the instructions, public and community spaces can host not more than 100 people. Besides this, more than 200 individuals will not be allowed at open locations.

Further, the central authority has asked the local officials to deploy a strict and vigilant watch on all regions with more than 100 cases. 20 neighbouring houses shall be brought under the containment zone if a single COVID case is detected. If this count is more than one, 60 households in the surroundings will be sealed. Given the upcoming panchayat polls, this decision was required to block an accelerated spread of the contamination.
