When Awadh was stormed and annexed by the British, Nawab Wajid Ali Shah didn't even get up from his throne because his shoe-servant wasn't there. You must have heard this tale about Lucknow's Nawab quite a few times. So, here's some news for you - the story is NOT TRUE!

To bust myths like this one and to highlight the immense influence that Nawab Wajid Ali Shah has had on Lucknow's past and present, storytellers Dr. Himanshu Bajpai and Dr. Pragya Sharma have prepared a 'Dastangoi', special backed by years of in-depth research.

Calling the young for an engaging history lesson

Speaking to Knocksense, Himanshu Bajpai says that this Dastangoi is a product of nearly a decade of research into the life of Awadh's last Nawab. He further emphasized the need for separating fact from fiction and giving the city folks an authentic account of the ruler's life and work.

Talking about the audience he wants to carry this story to the most, he said:

"Most of all, I want the youngsters in Lucknow to be in attendance and learn the real story about Nawab Wajid Ali Shah and contribution towards the city's rich heritage and culture. So, we call upon the city's youth as we're planning a public performance of the storytelling in August."
