Ditch the history books this February. Lucknow is about to witness the raw power and passion of Amrita Pritam, the icon who didn't just write her truth, she lived it. Now, her untold story comes alive in Azad Ruh: The Life & Legacy of Amrita Pritam by Surabhi Singh, on February 28, 2026 by Surabhi Singh at Sant Gadge Ji Maharaj Auditorium.

This event promises to be an immersive, hour-long journey into the fierce heart of a poetess who lived, loved, and defied the world on her own terms.

Amrita Pritam's unapologetic journey

This one-hour play traces Amrita Pritam's journey from witnessing Partition's bloodshed as a young woman to becoming the literary titan who dared write about female desire with shocking, unapologetic honesty. She survived trauma and transformed it into Pinjar. She fell in love with married painter Imroz and built a life on her terms while society lost its mind. She became the first woman to win the Sahitya Akademi Award, and never apologised for any of it.

"Azad Ruh" captures her fire, the lover, the rebel, the artist who turned pain into prose that still stings. You'll hear echoes of "Ajj Aakhaan Waris Shah Nu" and feel the heat of her most intimate verses. Expect raw emotion, powerful monologues, and moments that'll make you rethink what freedom actually costs. This isn't just theatre, it's stepping inside the emotional whirlwind that was Amrita Pritam.

Don't let this one slip away!

Winter's almost done, but before Lucknow heats up, catch a performance that's anything but lukewarm. Tickets are live on BookMyShow, grab yours before they vanish. Because some stories don't just entertain, they remind you what courage looks like.
