UP clears Private Bus Terminal Policy to ease congestion in Lucknow & other cities

Operating rights will be granted for 10 years, with an option to renew.

In a major move to decongest bus terminals, the UP cabinet has approved the UP Stage Carriage Bus Terminal, Contract Carriage and Tourist Bus Park Policy-2025, allowing private players to set up bus stations across the state, including Lucknow.

Under the policy, investors with at least 2 acres of land, ₹50 lakh net worth, and ₹2 crore turnover can apply. Each applicant can set up a maximum of 10 bus parks statewide, with no more than two per district.

A district-level regulatory authority, led by the DM, will oversee proposals. The goal is to reduce congestion, especially in high-traffic areas like Lucknow, and provide organised parking, modern terminals, and better passenger amenities.

The operating rights will be valid for 10 years, with a renewal option. The move is expected to attract private investment, improve travel facilities, and boost employment across the state.
