Long gone are the days when people had to run to the pension office and submit their applications to receive their dues. The UP government on Sunday launched a new e-pension portal, on the occasion of Labour Day. As per reports, the new portal has been designed to facilitate the disbursement of pensions to retired state employees.

Automatic portal for pension disbursement

The Uttar Pradesh Finance Department has set up a new electronic system of pension distribution in the state via a new portal, developed specifically to tackle the complaints and grievances of government employees. A testament to advanced technology, this new e-portal has been coded to track the status of retirement applications or PPO, disbursing pensions as and when due.

Notably, all applications, and provisions of this newly launched portal are in line with the guidelines provided by the Union Government. It can, thus, track the status of state government employees who are reaching 59.5 years of age, closing their retirement.

A Department officer said, "The pension of government servants was held back for various reasons but now the PPOs will have to be disposed of within a month. In case we do not receive a response, the pension will be disbursed within a month. It will be assumed that the head of the Department has gone through the request. In case an anomaly is pointed out later, the head of the Department will have to justify his/her action.

A digital step into the future

The e-portal is expected to digitise the task of pension disbursement, creating an automatic and transparent system for the benefit of all retired personnel. It will also save old-age persons to heckle and hassle for their due pensions, promoting their senior-citizen benefits.
