UP government unveils new 'Family ID' system; here's how to apply

Jatin Shewaramani

Contributing to the previously proposed 'one job per family' scheme, the UP government has now launched a dedicated 'Family ID - One Family One identity' system.

Under this, all families which are not enrolled under the National Food Security Scheme (ration card holders) will be able to avail of a collective ID for their family by registering on the UP government's Family ID portal. While for the families registered under the NFS scheme, their ration card will be considered their Family ID.

More about the Family ID system

After the registration, a unique ID will be generated for each family under the One Family One Identity scheme. This will further help the government in maintaining an expansive database of family units.

The database will be used by the statewide authorities in identifying families deprived of employment opportunities. Incidentally, suitable employment opportunities will be made available to them on priority through the 'one job per family' scheme. This will also help in better management of beneficiary schemes for the general public.

What is UP government's One Job Per Family proposal?

Back in 2020, UP government announced a special 'One Family One Job' scheme to counter the concern over escalating unemployment. The government declared that it would provide job to at least one member of every family in semi-urban and urban areas in cases where there is no earning member present in the household.

This was to be done through MNREGS pattern under which 100 days work and wages are ensured for every family in rural areas.

Now, with UP government's latest 'One Family One Identity' system, residents of UP cities can enrol for their Family IDs by applying on the portal i.e. https://familyid.up.gov.in/portal/index.html.
