UP govt launches scheme to provide jobs to winners of international sports competitions

These winners must be from the state and will directly be apointed to the position of gazetted officers

In a bid to motivate sportspersons in the state by offering support, the Uttar Pradesh government has re-launched the direct recruitment of meritorious players scheme. As per this discussion held in the state cabinet meeting on May 10, players native to UP will be appointed to the post of Gazetted officers across multiple state departments now.

Selection Committee to be set up soon

Talking about the scheme, Minister of Finance (UP) Suresh Khanna said, “It has been decided to appoint the players of UP winning medals in international sports events. For this, 24 posts have been identified in 9 departments.”

“A committee headed by the Chief Secretary will be constituted to select the players,” added Khanna.

According to the announcement made by the minister, winners of the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth, World Cup and Paralympics (after September 2020) will be eligible for this direct-job scheme.

The administration has shortlisted the following departments for this direct-job scheme for meritorious sportspersons.

  • Rural Development Department,

  • Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education,

  • Basic Education Council

  • Home Department

  • Panchayati Raj,

  • Youth Welfare

  • Transport Department

  • Forest Department

  • Revenue Department.

Notably, the Uttar Pradesh Olympic Association had been demanding jobs for UP athletes in their own state for a long time now. With this scheme now in effect, it will not only support sports and sportspersons in the state but also motivate budding athletes to work hard even harder.
