UPSRTC to revamp bus stations in Lucknow, Kanpur & 8 other UP cities

In a bid to improve the public transport infrastructure across the state, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) is all set to develop 17 bus stations across Uttar Pradesh, soon. Notably, Charbagh, Amausi and Vibhuti Khand bus station in Lucknow and the Kanpur Central bus station have marked their presence in this list. Under the ambit of this project, bus stations in Ghaziabad, Gorakhpur, Mathura, Prayagraj, Meerut, Varanasi, Agra and Aligarh will also be developed by UPSRTC.

Three bus stations each in Lucknow, Ghaziabad and Agra, two in Prayagraj and one each in Agra, Kanpur, Varanasi, Meerut, Gorakhpur and Mathura have been finalised for this development project by UPSRTC. Notably, the development of the Charbagh bus station alone is expected to cost around ₹47 crores.

As per the tender invitation by UPSRTC, these bus stations will be developed into commercial complexes under the Public-Private Partnership Model. Apart from shops, these complexes will include additional facilities for the operation of buses and the catering of passengers. While the invitation for tender has been sent by the administration, the bidding is set to open on January 28, 2022. Reportedly, with the allocated budget of ₹2,174 crores, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) aims to complete this project by March 2024.
