Helping improve inter-state connectivity, Uttar Pradesh government has announced that it will soon assemble a new dedicated waterway authority to explore options of developing waterways in the state. Further, they also plan to fabricate policies to provide cheaper transport options to micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and reduce transportation costs.

First waterway of Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh's 1st waterway flowing from Varanasi to Haldia, The National Waterway-1 (NW-1) is the longest waterway of India. The proposed waterway authority has already been instructed to carry out a detailed survey on the current status of the project. Enabling west to east inter-state connectivity, this 1,620 km long channel drains into Bay of Bengal passing through West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar.

Apart from waterways, the authorities also plan to improve road connectivity from east UP to west UP, as well as to major cities.
