Valentine’s Day: UP Police & Anti-Romeo Squad on alert to protect women in Lucknow

Knocksense Staff

To protect women from hooliganism on Valentines Day, UP Police and Anti Romeo Squad will be on an alert mode in Lucknow.

The squad will work together with The Women Power Line (1090) to address emergency complaints related to misbehavior and hooliganism by extremist groups.

The Anti Romeo Squad was constituted by Yogi Government in March 2017. The squad is deployed near women school and colleges, parks, malls and other public places for the protection of women.

However, the squad got a bad name on social media, when police officers started harassing couples in parks and malls. However, this time around, strict instructions are issued to police stations and Anti Romeo Squads to deal with troublemakers only.

Speaking to media, SSP Deepak Kumar said “Directions have been issued to Anti Romeo Squads to deal with troublemakers strictly. People getting involved in any kind of bad behavior with women or trying to do moral policing will be punished according to the law.”

He further said, “Women cops will be deployed at places where such incidents are apprehended.”

The police have been asked to inspect public places regularly to ensure women’s safety. The Anti Romeo Squad has also been asked to work with Women Powerline (1090) to solve complaints.
