Based on the inspection conducted from February 2 to 5, Lucknow’s King George's Medical University (KGMU) managed to bag A+ rating by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). This year, the medical university scored higher on cleanliness and waste disposal parameters. 

This stands as an improvement from 2017, when KGMU scored an 'A' rating. KGMU is one of the biggest medical teaching and patient care centres in the country that houses over 4,500 beds for patients and over 75 departments.

NAAC has identified a set of seven criterias to serve as the basis of its assessment procedures - curricular aspects, teaching-learning & Evaluation, research, innovations & extension, infrastructure & learning resources, student support & progression, governance, leadership & management, and institutional values & best practices. 

KGMU scored 3.95 out of 4 in ‘governance, leadership and management’ parameter followed by 3.87 in ‘institutional values and best practices’, 3.67 in ‘curricular aspects’, 3.55 in ‘infrastructure and learning resources’, 3.25 in ‘teaching learning and evaluation’, 3.1 in ‘research, innovation and extension’ and 2.86 in ‘student support and progression’. The low scores in the last three parameters prevented KGMU from scoring a A++ grade.

NAAC rating helps institutions work on their strengths, weaknesses, and gives them an opportunity to further review their performances. Better rating helps in these institutions attract significant international collaboration.
