Lucknow city has long been plagued by it’s traffic condition. It has led to drastic increase in pollution, congestion and inconvenience. Lucknowites can now take a breath of relief as the city traffic will undergo some major changes to tackle these issues.
One of the major steps that LMRC and LDA are taking is to remove all the metro construction barricades that are placed from Chaudary Charan Singh Airport to Munshi Puliya. This in turn will make the north-south corridor commute more seamless and a better experience for travellers.

LMRC to complete the construction of N-S corridor by December 31
The goal of the LMRC is to complete construction along the corridor by December 31 and subsequently get rid of the barricades, starting the new year on a new note. To bring more convenience, LMRC officials confirmed that roads damaged due to construction of the metro would also be repaired.
Lucknow Municipal Corporation has also been roped in to reduce traffic congestion. They aim to push forward ITMS (integrated traffic management system) in the city. Under ITMS, 110 traffic lights with automatic signal control system, a separate light signal for people traversing on foot and CCTV cameras will be installed. With the help of CCTVs, officials can immediately send e-challans to traffic rule violators.
In addition to these changes, over 150 smart buses will also ply within the city, making travelling across Lucknow a better experience. It will also greatly help in decongesting the everyday traffic on the roads. All these moves come as a part of making Lucknow a Smart City.

One of the more unique methods adopted by an ongoing citizen movement is not to develop the city, but to change the mindset of people altogether. The initiative includes Yamraj- the God of death in Hindu religion and a group of concerned citizens, as message bearers. The message is simple and clear as day – to be wary of traffic rules and ensure road safety. Yamraj and the group was complete with a placards bearing the message of safer commutes.
Lucknow is all set to bid a welcome adieu to all it’s traffic woes. The LDA and the LMRC have been eagerly pushing forward these developments. With added support and help from citizens, this makes the move even more concrete and viable. We hope to see some great positive changes in the coming future.
