340 meter skywalk to come up between Bandra Terminus and Suburban station in Mumbai

Somya Agarwal

A new skywalk for the daily commuters in Mumbai, is coming up soon. It will connect Bandra suburban station and Bandra Terminus (BDTS) to facilitate easy access to the two jam-packed stations. At a proposed cost of ₹32.3 crore, the Western Railways will soon commence the construction of the 340 meter long skywalk, and administrative formalities have also been taken care of. This new walkway will replace the Western Railway's longest skywalk in Bandra which is 314 meters in length.

Connector to facilitate ease of movement

Commuters of the terminus and the local station have been demanding a skywalk like connector for quite a while now. It is a difficult task for commuters from Bandra or Khar to reach the terminus by foot, so much so that many avoided taking the suburban train. Besides, the management has also received complaints of overcharging of autorickshaws in the area outside the station.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) have been working together to augment the urban mobility network in the city. As part of the initiative, the department is already thorough with the feasibility and departmental survey of the proposed project. The divisional railway officials have also submitted a project estimate to the Railway Board for its approval.
