36th National Games: Uttar Pradesh defeats Maharashtra 3-2, enters finals

Uttar Pradesh enters men’s hockey final in the 36th National Games of India.

36th National Games are currently underway in India. In this, the Uttar Pradesh Hockey team secured a 6-5 (3-3 tie-breaker) win against Maharasthra in an exhilarating, nail-biting match at Dhyan Chand Stadium. Details of the match are such that the audience was forced to the edge of their seats the entire play-time.

36th National Games : Uttar Pradesh vs Maharashtra Men’s Hockey Match 

After a neck-to-neck battle, both the teams locked at 3-3 at the end of the play-time. For Uttar Pradesh, the goals where scored by Sumit Kumar, Sunil Yadav and Manish Yadav, whereas for Maharashtra, Aniket Gurav scored 2 goals and Sayyad Niyaz Rahim scored one. Uttar Pradesh claimed the board with 2 goals in the third quarter, leading to a tie-breaker shoot out.

During the tie-breaker shoot-out, Rajkumar Pal, Rahul Kumar Rajbhar and Indian camper Lalit Kumar Upadhyay scored for UP, while Darshan Gawkar and Yuvraj Walmiki scored but Pratap Shinde failed to rise to the occassion for Maharashtra, concluding the match at a 6-5 final score.
