A heartfelt tribute: Junction in Lokhandwala Complex renamed as 'Sridevi Kapoor Chowk'

This decision reflects the community's profound affection for her.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Bollywood icon Sridevi by naming a square in the Lokhandwala Complex after her, as 'Sridevi Kapoor Chowk'. Known for her unforgettable performances in films like 'Chandni' and 'Mr. India,' Sridevi's legacy continues to resonate with fans worldwide.

A legacy to remember

This homage comes after residents and the municipality advocated for the recognition of Sridevi's connection to the area, where she resided at Green Acres Tower and where her final journey began.

However, amidst discussions about immortalising her life in a biopic, her husband Boney Kapoor expressed staunch opposition, citing her private nature. Furthermore, it has emerged that Sridevi, a fan of the late Punjabi singer Chamkila, had expressed a desire to collaborate with him on a film, though the project never materialised.

This gesture by BMC adds to a tradition of honouring artistic legacies while joining other notable dedications - like Amitabh Bachchan's waterfall in Sikkim and Raj Kapoor's road in Canada. Back in February, a chowk in Mumbai's Juhu locality was inaugurated, to commemorate Ravi Tandon's legacy in the Indian film industry.
