Mumbai has just completed its first-ever cable-stayed road overbridge at Reay Road Station, marking a significant milestone in the city's infrastructure development. The bridge, which boasts six lanes and a dedicated pedestrian footpath, has become one of the fastest-constructed overbridges spanning the rail lines, taking just two years to complete since construction began on February 14, 2022.

Mumbai’s FIRST Cable-Stayed Overbridge: Easing traffic, ensuring Eastern Freeway clearance

Launched on February 14, 2022, this ₹273-crore project is part of a citywide initiative by Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MRIDC) to replace aging British-era bridges with modern cable-stayed structures. These bridges are being built adjacent to the old ones to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow during construction.

The Reay Road Bridge, set to be commissioned shortly, will facilitate smooth traffic through the Barrister Nath Pai Road underpass and ensure enough clearance for vehicles passing under the Eastern Freeway. Designed with architectural LED lighting, the bridge will add to Mumbai's skyline, while a bridge health monitoring system will ensure safety.

Construction is also underway at Byculla, Dadar, and Ghatkopar, with the Reay Road Bridge marking a significant step toward modernising Mumbai’s transport network.
