The Department of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra, in partnership with the Tech Entrepreneurs Association of Mumbai (TEAM), has launched an innovative project to reshape urban governance and citizen interaction in India. Known as the Mumbai Megapolis Metaverse site, this groundbreaking 'digital twin' venture presents an advanced virtual rendition of Mumbai. It highlights current infrastructure advancements and imagines the transformation of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) by 2025.

Mumbai Metaverse Unveiled

Led by Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister, the project employs state-of-the-art technology to create an immersive virtual city experience. It aims to educate citizens on 12 identified infrastructure projects, providing insights into technological, cost, environmental, and other crucial factors, fostering awareness of long-term sustainable infrastructure development. He also asserted that Mumbai would surpass Bengaluru, Delhi, and other urban centers regarding mobility. Further, he emphasised the government's commitment to ensuring that commuters in Mumbai can access any destination within a 59-minute timeframe.

Notable tech entrepreneurs, including Ashish Hemrajani, Harsh Jain, and Aakrit Vaish, have also joined forces to bring this vision to life. This metaverse offers a firsthand look into significant transformations underway in the MMR, featuring 12 projects like the Mumbai Coastal Road, Mumbai Metro Line 3, Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, and the Navi Mumbai International Airport, etc.

Accessible through virtual reality (VR) devices, a dedicated mobile app, a website, and the official Maharashtra tourism platform launched during the Mumbai Tech Week, the initiative aims to engage citizens with the city's technological advancements.
