India is a destination that is plagued by the issue of poverty and how! You’ll often find yourself in a moral dilemma of tipping beggars, at every nook and corner. However, one such homeless individual from Mumbai, Bharat Jain, has managed to shatter the stereotype of a 'beggar'. Currently, Bharat is the world's richest beggar with a net worth of 7.5 crores.

Standing in the hall of fame?

The journey of Bharat Jain from rags to riches is truly extraordinary and reminds us of the iconic under-bridge scene of Smakiya beggar from Fukrey movie.

But how did he do it? Born into a financially constrained family and no formal education, earning options for Bharat Jain were fairly limited. Relying on the generosity of strangers, he can be found at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus or Azad Maidan. Within 10-12 hours, with his praiseworthy communication skills, Bharat manages to collect ₹2000 to ₹2500. He has been thriving on his determination to accumulate every penny earned from his hard labour and further, he invests all of it in real estate.

Presently, Bharat Jain is a married man and with two sons, living in a two-bedroom flat in Mumbai, worth ₹1.2 crores. He also owns two shops in Thane, that generate a monthly rental income of ₹30,000 each. Despite the pleas of this family, he continues to work as a beggar and is often spotted on the streets of Mumbai. It is indeed remarkable how Bharat Jain managed to break the cycle of poverty and build a substantial real estate portfolio.
