Bharat Bandh on July 9, 2025: What Mumbaikars need to know

Over 25 crore workers to join strike.

Somya Agarwal

Mumbai may experience partial service disruptions on July 9, as central trade unions lead a nationwide Bharat Bandh. With over 25 crore workers expected to participate, sectors such as banking, insurance, postal services, and electricity may be affected. However, most transport and educational services are likely to operate as usual.

What’s likely to be affected

Banking & Insurance Services

Several bank employee unions in Mumbai have confirmed their participation, which could impact cash transactions, cheque clearances, and customer service. Insurance workers are also expected to join the protest.

Postal & Government Services

Mail deliveries and post office counters may face delays due to staff absence. Public offices may operate with reduced personnel.

Electricity & Utility Services

Power supply may face minor disruptions. Although a citywide outage is not expected, response times for power-related complaints may slow down.

What’s expected to run as normal

Local Trains & BEST Buses

Mumbai’s suburban trains and BEST bus services are expected to run as usual. However, this could change if transport unions decide to join the protest.

Schools & Colleges

No government directive has been issued to shut educational institutions. Most schools and colleges will remain open.

Private Offices & Businesses

Corporate hubs like BKC, Lower Parel, and Andheri are expected to function normally. Retail shops and restaurants are also likely to stay open unless affected by demonstrations.
