On February 4, 2025, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) presented its largest-ever budget of ₹74,427 crore for the fiscal year 2025-26, a 14.19% increase from the previous year's ₹65,180 crore. This budget reflects the ongoing shift in governance, as BMC has been under administrator rule since March 2022.
As the wealthiest municipal body in India, BMC’s budget focuses on large-scale development and infrastructure projects aimed at improving the city’s growth and services.
Tax and Revenue-
BMC plans to assess around 50,000 commercial establishments in slums for property tax
Expected to generate ₹350 crore to improve slum infrastructure and services
Will auction BMC plot at Asphalt Plant, Worli, on lease for private development
Transportation and Infrastructure-
Allocated ₹5,100 crore for road and traffic infrastructure improvements
Proposed Transportation and Commercial Hub at Dahisar Check Naka
Plans to complete several Road Over Bridges (ROBs) before monsoon
Developing multilevel robotic car parking spaces for 834 vehicles
Healthcare Expansion-
Established 250 Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray - Aapla Dawakhana clinics
Benefited nearly 90 lakh patients
Plans to open 25 more such clinics and three physiotherapy centres
Will continue to provide free medical check-ups, medication, and blood tests
Educational Initiatives-
Annual education budget of ₹3,955.64 crore
Increased education funds by ₹630 crore compared to last financial year
Launching 'Mission SAMPURN' from academic year 2025-26
Allocated ₹12 crore for school furniture upgradation
Will provide supplementary nutrition to students from Nursery to 10th Standard
Environmental and Recreational Projects-
Developing zoo exhibits for exotic species like Giraffe, Zebra, White Lion
Planning to plant 4,416 trees across 17 different plots
Creating 'Mumbai Public Park' on 290-acre land
Developing Anandvan Green Belt along Sanjay Gandhi National Park
