The Maharashtra Government has finally allowed the shooting of movies and television serials, across all government premises in the state, at no cost. An order in this regard was put out by the state government, which has received unanimous applause from the film fraternity.

Having said that, this same lifting of fees will not be applicable for Mumbai's Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari and Kolhapur's Chitranagari. Regular charges will apply to all for shooting at these two locations.

Security deposit will have to be paid for shooting

It is noteworthy that earlier the producers had to pay anywhere between ₹40,000 and ₹50,000 for a day of shooting in government premises. They won't have to pay this amount anymore, however, a security deposit will have to be paid for the entirety of the shoot. The deposit amount will be as follows:

  • ₹40,000 for shooting commercials

  • ₹1,00,000 for shooting TV serials

  • ₹2,50,000 for shooting feature films

If the premises are left dirty or damaged, the amount for repair of any such deterioration will be deducted from the mentioned deposit.

Notably, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan are the states that already allow free shooting on government premises. Now, Maharashtra is all set to follow suit in an attempt to make the state a global film destination.
