The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for Mumbai and Thane for the next 24 to 48 hours, coupled with the possibility of a thunderstorm. Sushma Nair, a scientist at IMD, reported temperatures soaring above 39°C in Thane and Vikhroli (Mumbai) on Tuesday.

The forecast warns of heatwave conditions following the gusty winds and unseasonal rain on May 13 in Mumbai. Maximum temperatures are anticipated to reach 37°C, with a minimum of 26°C, over the next two days.

As the nation gears up for the Southwest Monsoon, the Met department anticipates its arrival in the South Andaman Sea, Southeast Bay of Bengal, and Nicobar Islands by May 19, 2024. This impending weather shift hints at varied patterns across India.
