Mumbai is currently basking under clear skies as the month of May kicks off, with no signs of rain today. As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city will continue to reel under warm and humid conditions. While there’s no official heatwave warning, the combination of high humidity and temperatures ranging between 26°C and 34°C is keeping things uncomfortably sticky.
However, starting Friday, a marginal rise in temperature is expected possibly crossing 35°C, accompanied by partly cloudy skies. But, by Sunday, pre-monsoon activity could make its way to Mumbai, bringing scattered showers and thunderstorms to the city and nearby districts like Thane, Palghar and Raigad.
The IMD has predicted afternoon or evening rainfall from Sunday through Tuesday, signalling the first signs of pre-monsoon changes. While the Konkan coasts remain clear of alerts, several areas in Vidarbha are under a yellow warning due to possible thunderstorms and lightning.
While unseasonal summer showers are not unusual for Mumbai, they remain light before the monsoon’s arrival around June 11. For now, Mumbaikars can enjoy the clear skies, but should brace for a muggy weekend ahead.
