Moderate to isolated intense showers accompanied by thunderstorms have lined up the Mumbai forecast for the day, raising an IMD Yellow Alert in the MMR and neighbouring Thane region. As per the reports of the weather department, the wet spell will stretch across Maharashtra for the next 4 to 5 days, bringing relief from the oppressive sultry weather. In a weather update, the Indian Meteorological Department has suggested the revival of the south-west monsoon winds along the Maharashtra coast. As such, moderate showers and isolated intense spells have been predicted in the coming days.

As per predictions, the showers will hit Palghar, Thane and Mumbai on the weekend with full force. During this period, Raigad, Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri will also remain under the radar of scattered yet severe downpours.

As of 8:30 AM today, the IMD unit at Santacruz recorded 72.8 mm of heavy rains in the suburbs, while the Colaba observation recovered 36 mm of moderate showers. This rainfall activity has been linked to the strengthening of the trade winds at the Arabian Sea due to the pressure gradient over the west-central and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal, sometime around Sunday. As such, an increased torrent is expected along the west and east coast for the next five days.

Besides Maharashtra, isolated regions in Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Kerala will receive heavy to very heavy rains till July 12, IMD's all India weather summary relayed on Thursday.
