Mumbai’s Khar Road Railway Station has emerged as the first fully redeveloped station under the ₹950 crore Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) 3A, marking a major leap in modernising the city’s suburban rail network. The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) spent ₹85 crore to transform the station, now equipped with cutting-edge amenities to serve its 1.6 lakh daily commuters.

270m platform, mega deck & smart accessibility features

Key features include a 270-meter-long home platform to ease congestion, a massive 4,952 sqm elevated deck, the largest on Western Railway, and a 31-meter skywalk for seamless movement. Accessibility has been prioritised with three lifts, five escalators (including a unique double-discharge escalator), and tactile tiles for visually impaired passengers.

The station now boasts deluxe toilets, dedicated disability-friendly counters, HVLS fans for ventilation, and a modern façade. MRVC Chairman Vilas Wadekar called it a "leap toward decongesting Mumbai’s rail network."The station now features deluxe toilets, accessible counters, HVLS fans, and a sleek new façade.

Seventeen high-traffic stations, including Santacruz, Kandivli, and Ghatkopar, are next in line for similar upgrades under MUTP-3A, aiming to enhance safety, accessibility, and sustainability across Mumbai’s lifeline suburban network.
