A massive water pipeline burst in Mumbai's Bandra on Tuesday, resulting in water gushing 50 feet into the air, wasting lakhs of litres. Videos of the incident went viral on social media, showing locals gathering around the site as water rained down.

The cause of the rupture remains unknown, but the incident is expected to result in water shortages in Central and South Mumbai.

Pipeline burst and repairs work leave Mumbai thirsty

Mumbai is already grappling with a 10% water cut due to ongoing repairs at the Pise dam's pneumatic gate system, a water distribution point supplying the city, Thane and Bhiwandi. The Bandra pipeline burst threatens to worsen the situation, potentially leading to disruptions in Central and South Mumbai. Further, BMC had earlier announced water cut from December 1 to 5.
