The second arm of the bow-string bridge, part of Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), is set to open by January 26, stated reports. This will link the Coastal Road directly to Bandra Worli Sea Link (BWSL). Now, BMC is putting the finishing touches on waterproofing, asphalting and installing electric poles, all in preparation for southbound traffic to flow seamlessly starting January 26.
As per BMC officials, this bridge is India’s longest bow-string arch bridge spanning across an open sea! Currently, the northbound traffic is partially open, allowing traffic from Nariman Point to access the BWSL. With this upcoming launch, the entire structure will be fully operational, improving connectivity and easing traffic flow.
Moreover, Coastal Road Project’s first phase is quickly taking shape. While the southern arm from Worli to Marine Drive was partially inaugurated on March 11, the northern stretch linking Marine Drive and Haji Ali opened on June 11. The final stretch between Haji Ali and Worli was completed in July. Just recently, BMC unveiled the sixth arm of the Haji Ali interchange towards Worli, with two more interchanges expected to be operational by May 2025.
Additionally, the second phase of the Coastal Road Project, which will stretch from Versova to Dahisar, has received approval. Estimated to cost ₹16,621 crore, this stretch will include multiple bridges, flyovers, and underground tunnels.
