This project kickstarts Maha's goal to create 100 solar-powered villages.

On Monday, Maharashtra celebrated a milestone as Manyachiwadi in Satara district was inaugurated as the state's first solar-powered village. This achievement marked a significant leap towards renewable energy, with 102 rooftop solar installations now providing 100% of the village’s electricity needs.

With a population of 420, every household in Manyachiwadi will enjoy zero electricity bills. Solar panels now power street lights, the public water supply system, and essential local services, including the school and gram panchayat office.

100 villages to go solar with this initiative

The initiative is part of Maharashtra's ambitious plan to solarise 100 villages across the state. Under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme, residents can receive substantial subsidies for solar installations, making it financially stable to generate and even sell surplus energy back to the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL).

Commended for its contribution to cutting energy costs and encouraging sustainable living, the project received appreciation. The Deputy Chief Minister also revealed the state’s plan to supply up to 100% solar power to two villages per district within the next two months. This initiative not only furthers Maharashtra’s green energy objectives but also establishes a model for rural electrification and sustainable energy practices throughout India.
