Mercury dips to 13.8°C in Mumbai on Sunday, citizens witness coldest day of season

The minimum temperature on January 17 is likely to remain at 17°C.

The Maharashtra capital, on Sunday, experienced the coldest day of the season as mercury dropped to 13.8 degrees Celsius at night. While North Indian states have been shivering at as low as subzero temperatures, the southern states are not left far behind with global warming taking an overall toll in our world.

As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), the recorded temperature of 13.8°C was four degrees below the norm. The maximum hit was also 26.2 degrees Celsius, that is, five degrees lower than the normal temperature in the coastal city.

However, the situation will predictably get better and sunnier. While minimum temperatures on January 16 are likely to go down to 16°C, they're likely to drop to 17°C on January 17, and 18°C on Jan 18. The maximum is expected to remain between 29°C-31°C on the coming days.

At the same time, the air quality in Mumbai remains poor, lingering around 225. The AQI may also cause breathing discomfort on prolonged exposure to air and people with health issues are advised to remain vigil.

Until now, the lowest temperature registered in Mumbai was 15 degrees Celsius, recorded on December 25, 2022.
