Mumbai BMC launches ₹61,500/month fellowship for fresh graduates

If you are under 28, hold a degree, and want a front-row seat to the inner workings of India’s financial capital, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched an opportunity worth your attention. The civic body is inviting applications for its 12-month Gen Z Fellowship 2026. Designed to bridge the gap between fresh graduates and urban governance, the initiative offers hands-on experience in public administration alongside a handsome monthly stipend of ₹61,500.

What the Fellowship entails

Under the banner "Let's join hands for Viksit Mumbai", the year-long programme aims to bring young talent directly into municipal administration, policymaking, and strategic leadership. Fellows will work alongside city administrators, gaining direct insight into how large-scale civic decisions are planned and executed across Mumbai. Only 50 seats are available for this cohort, and participants will receive an official certificate upon completion.

Key eligibility criteria

Before putting together your application, ensure you tick all the necessary boxes:

  • Age Limit: Must be under 28 years at the time of application.
  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in Marathi is mandatory (reading, writing, and speaking). Working knowledge of Hindi and English is also required.
  • Tech Literacy: Sound basic computer and internet skills.
