Mumbai Dry Days, August 2025 | Liquor shops to be shut on THESE dates

Stock up, Mumbai!

Khushboo Ali

Mumbaikars will need to adjust their weekend and festival plans due to dry days enforced by the Excise Department. With Independence Day, Janmashtami, and Ganesh Chaturthi falling this month, alcohol sales will be prohibited on specific days.

The first dry day is on 15th August (Friday) for Independence Day, a nationwide restriction. The second follows on 16th August (Saturday) for Janmashtami, with Maharashtra observing it as a religious dry day. The third dry day will be on 27th August (Wednesday) for Ganesh Chaturthi, marking the start of Mumbai’s grand 10-day celebration of Lord Ganesha.

Although private consumption isn’t restricted, liquor sales will be halted at bars, pubs, and shops on these days. Authorities may also impose further restrictions during the Visarjan processions on 5th and 6th September. Residents should plan ahead as the Excise Department may adjust dry day enforcement depending on the festive vibe.
