The Western Railway (WR) collected fines worth ₹68.45 crore during numerous ticket-checking drives from April to September, 2024. During this period, 1.38 lakh passengers, travelling without tickets across Mumbai's suburban local services, as well as on Mail/Express and holiday special trains were penalised, per a press release issued on October 9. Further, the PR stated that of the total amount, ₹22.7 crore alone was recovered from the Mumbai suburban section.

Moreover, last month, WR collected fines amounting to ₹2.69 crore from 80,000 ticketless commuters on the Mumbai suburban section.

Further, frequent surprise ticket checking drives are carried out to prevent unauthorised entry in AC local trains. As a result of these drives, almost 28,500 unauthorised passengers have been penalised from April to September 2024 and over ₹94 lakh collected in fines.
