IMD tracks the arrival of Southwest Monsoon in Goa & Maharashtra by early next week

Northwards from Kerala, monsoon advances towards Goa & Maharashtra; rains expected in the next 2-3 days.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday, stated that the Southwest Monsoon is likely to hit the coast of Goa and some parts of Maharashtra in the next two to three days. Following its normal course, northwards from Kerala, the summer showers will also advance towards Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu by early next week, bringing respite from the oppressive weathers.

Monsoon to envelope Maharashtra by mid-June

The onset of monsoon on the Indian mainland was lodged on Thursday, when several places in Kerala received 70mm -160 mm of rains. Brewing both strength and speed, the showers are gaining feat in Southern India and will scale northwards to wash Goa and part of Maharashtra in its wake. Officials from the weather forecasting division have stated that while scattered to widespread showers will be witnessed until early next week, isolated heavy spells will frequent over Konkan, Goa and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra.

As per the IMD reports, rains are expected to reach the southernmost districts of Maharashtra by June 7. The entire state will however not be covered by the monsoon spirit until mid-June. Forecasts suggest that Mumbai will welcome the first showers on June 11, post which the entire state will witness a wet week until June 17.

Districts like Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Ahmednagar, Pune, Nashik, Jalgaon, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Aurangabad, Jalna, Beed and Osmanabad will be reeling in thundershowers by Saturday, Lightening and strong gusty winds, at 30 to 40 mph will also be experienced here. Reportedly, certain areas may experience pre-monsoon showers, informed officials.
