'Mumbai One' Card: One-swipe access to local trains, BEST buses, metros & monorails

Inspired by London’s Oyster Card.

Mumbai is gearing up to launch the Mumbai One Card (Mumbai 1), a single smartcard that will grant access to multiple modes of public transport across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Announced on April 11, the initiative is aimed at enhancing commuter convenience.

Metro, Monorail, Trains, and Buses: All Covered

Once launched, the smartcard will be valid across Mumbai Metro, Monorail, suburban local trains, and public buses, allowing passengers to travel seamlessly using just one card. Officials stated that the card’s digital infrastructure will be ready within a month.

Passengers will be able to book a single ticket from point A to B, even if the journey involves switching between different types of public transport. This will eliminate the need to queue at multiple ticket counters during one trip.

Inspired by London’s Oyster Card

The Mumbai 1 Card takes a leaf from London’s Oyster Card—a contactless smartcard used across the city’s buses, Tube, trams, DLR, Overground, and selected national rail services. Similarly, Mumbai’s version is designed to reduce hassle and encourage the use of public transport.
