Mumbai plans new 1.5-km Elevated Road from Senapati Bapat Marg to Haji Ali

Better access to Mumbai Coastal Road.

Somya Agarwal

A 1.5-km Elevated Road has been proposed to connect Senapati Bapat Marg (near Phoenix Mills and Kamla Mills) to Lala Lajpatrai Road at Haji Ali, where the Mumbai Coastal Road already has entry and exit points. Once completed, the six-lane corridor will reduce travel time for commuters from Parel, Dadar, Matunga, and Mahim by up to 30 minutes.

Route to run along Mahalaxmi Racecourse

The elevated corridor will provide direct access to roads such as Gokhale Road, NM Joshi Marg, Bhavani Shankar Road, and Lady Jamshed Road. This will ease movement towards critical areas including Shivaji Park, Siddhivinayak Temple, Lower Parel, and Mahim.

The viaduct will begin near the Coastal Road entry/exit at Haji Ali, run adjacent to the Mahalaxmi Racecourse and NSCI Dome, and terminate near E Moses Road on Senapati Bapat Marg. Officials confirm the project will use government-owned open land and will avoid disruption to current traffic patterns.

The project is expected to cost between ₹250–300 crore and implementing agencies are yet to be finalised.
