In a major crackdown on illegal street racing, Mumbai Police took swift action in the early hours of Sunday, seizing 52 motorcycles and booking their riders. The special operation, led by Bandra and Kherwadi police, targeted reckless bikers engaged in high-speed racing and stunts at Bandra Reclamation and the Western Express Highway (WEH).
The crackdown was initiated after the police control room received multiple complaints about bikers dangerously manoeuvring through Bandra Reclamation, Mount Mary Road, and WEH, posing a serious threat to public safety.
Acting swiftly, officers from Bandra and Kherwadi police stations intercepted the bikers between Kherwadi Junction and Reclamation, resulting in the seizure of 52 motorcycles. Bandra Police registered 14 cases, while Kherwadi Police booked 38 individuals under relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, for reckless driving and endangering public safety. All 52 riders have been issued notices to appear for further investigation.
Mumbai Police have urged citizens to report such illegal racing activities by calling emergency numbers 100, 112, or the helpline 022-22641752. This decisive action highlights the city’s ongoing efforts to crack down on reckless biking and ensure safer roads for all.
