Mumbai ranked 72nd in 'World's Best Cities'; Check out which city topped the list

Resonance Consultancy, a leading real estate, tourism and economic development advisor has come up with a list of the World's Best Cities, which they claim to be the most comprehensive city rankings ever put together.

Mumbai has claimed the 72nd spot, ranking above some magnificent cities like Brisbane, Shanghai, Lyon and Manchester. The list, which is quite literally a travel's dream bucket list, has taken into account a wide array of factors.

Which cities have ranked highest on the list?

United Kingdom's London has topped the list, beating tough competition from Paris and New York, which have been ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively. Tokyo, Dubai, Barcelona, Rome, Madrid, Singapore, and Amsterdam have taken the remaining seven spots in the top ten.

Ukraine's Kyiv has been named the Honorary World's Best City in the list, with special mentions of the city's efficient subway, minimalistic-themed cafes, and churches that date back centuries.

The list gives a nod to iconic Mumbai spots

Mumbai, on the other hand, which stood at the 72nd place overall, has been ranked 24th in "most global fortune 500 companies", 36th for "sights and landmarks", and 75th for "airport connectivity".

World-renowned tourist spots in Mumbai such as the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminal, Taj Mahal Palace, and the Gateway of India have been termed by the list-makers as "global cultural touchstones".

The Methodology used to compile the list

Resonance Consultancy have ranked the cities by evaluating 24 different areas, classified into 6 core categories that include:

  • Place: Weather, Safety, Sights and Landmarks

  • Product: Airport Connectivity, Attractions, Museums, University Ranking, Convention Centre

  • Programming: Culture, Nightlife, Restaurants, Shopping Destinations

  • People: Labor Force Participation, Educational Attainment

  • Prosperity: Global Fortune 500 companies, GDP per capita, Employment rate, Income equality

  • Promotion: Facebook check-ins, Google Search, TripAdvisor Reviews, Instagram hashtags, Google trends.
