A dedicated tourism security force will soon be deployed at the Gateway of India and Nariman Point in Mumbai to enhance safety and manage crowds at these popular landmarks. The move follows the success of a similar initiative in Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani, where the force has been active for the past three months. During peak tourist seasons, officers there have ensured visitor safety, maintained smooth traffic flow, resolved disputes, and curbed rash driving.

A review meeting was held earlier this week to finalise the plan for Mumbai. Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) will provide four-wheelers and two-wheelers for the personnel to patrol key areas.

Unlike the hill station team, which comprises officers from the Maharashtra State Security Corporation, Mumbai’s force will be drawn from the Maharashtra State Ex-Servicemen Welfare Board. Accommodation for the personnel has been arranged, and they will receive legal training before deployment.
