Mumbai under Orange Alert today! Thunderstorms, gusty winds & flash floods on the radar

Stay alert, Mumbai!

Somya Agarwal

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Mumbai for September 25! Expect heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in isolated spots.

This weather event follows a recent series of continuous downpours that have led to water-logging and disrupted daily life in Mumbai. The potential for gusty winds and flash floods has heightened concerns among local authorities.

Stay Alert, Maharashtra!

  • Apart from Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Palghar are also under Orange Alert, with predictions of very heavy rainfall in certain areas.

  • Meanwhile, Raigad and Pune are on Red Alert for the next 24 hours, signalling extremely heavy downpours are on the way. This could lead to flooding and landslides, so it’s best to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel.

  • Overall, Maharashtra is expected to experience widespread rainfall until September 26. Central Maharashtra, in particular, is likely to see extremely heavy rains today.

  • This consistent rainfall is a result of an active monsoon, which, while withdrawing from Gujarat and Rajasthan, is still very much active in Maharashtra.
