After a week-long dry spell, Mumbai woke up to light to moderate rainfall on Thursday, bringing relief from the humid weather. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast a cloudy sky with possible thundershowers in parts of the city. A nowcast warning at 7 AM predicted isolated light rain in Mumbai and Thane over the next few hours, urging residents to stay cautious.
Despite the showers, Mumbai’s rainfall deficit persists, with Santacruz recording 0 mm and Colaba 1.2 mm in the past 24 hours. The city faces a seasonal shortfall of 219 mm (Santacruz) and 425 mm (Colaba). However, moderate rain is expected in Maharashtra’s Konkan, Marathwada, and Madhya regions till August 9 due to cyclonic circulations.
Meanwhile, Mumbai’s water reservoirs are at 89.18% capacity, with Tansa and Modak Sagar nearly full. High tides (3.97 m at 11:08 AM) may cause waterlogging in low-lying areas, prompting alerts for commuters. While Raigad and Ratnagiri are under a yellow alert, Mumbai may see light rain in the coming days.
