Mumbai will soon host its first state-level cultural centre and museum at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) on a 14,418-square-metre plot. Announcing the project in the state assembly on Tuesday, Maharashtra's Cultural Affairs highlighted the government’s commitment to preserving the state's rich heritage for future generations.

The cultural centre will feature a grand auditorium, art galleries, and a research centre, serving as a hub for national and international cultural exchange. It will provide a platform for global artists and attract tourists from across the world.

The museum, modelled after iconic institutions like the Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, will showcase Maharashtra’s treasures, including archaeological artefacts, rare paintings, sculptures, ancient manuscripts, traditional textiles, and weaponry.

The plot for the project has been allocated to the Cultural Affairs Department free of cost by the Revenue Department, marking a significant step in promoting Mumbai as a global cultural destination. This initiative is set to elevate Maharashtra’s cultural identity on the world stage.
