Mumbai’s 28-acre Shivaji Park is set for a major upgrade, with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) launching a heritage-themed beautification project. Popular among walkers, joggers, and sports enthusiasts from Colaba to Bandra, the park will see improvements to infrastructure and aesthetics.
Renovated jogging track and inner walking path
New reinforced seating ('katta') to match heritage design
Upgraded lighting, benches, and visitor urinals
Restoration of heritage structures including the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue and Manora Tower
New tree guards, improved fencing, and decorative statues
Installation of Bermuda grass to address red soil dust pollution
Officials will enforce regulations against unauthorised commercial activity within the precinct. Work is expected to begin in October or November 2025 and finish by June 2026, ahead of the monsoon. Tenders are currently being prepared.
To address ongoing dust issues from loose red soil, BMC is trialling natural turf solutions with expert input from IIT-Bombay and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board. Local residents will also be consulted during the planning phase.
