Mumbai is set to open a major section of its ambitious 7.5-km Coastal Road promenade by Independence Day, offering a scenic seaside pathway that’s more than double the length of Marine Drive. The promenade, spanning the city's western coastline, is set to become a prime destination for walkers, joggers, and cyclists.

The initial phase will see the launch of 5.25 kilometres, connecting Priyadarshini Park to Haji Ali and from Baroda Palace to Worli, offering stunning coastal views and recreational space for the public.

A sustainable seaside hub with eco-friendly amenities

This development is part of the ₹13,984-crore Mumbai Coastal Road project, which includes a 10.58-kilometre expressway linking Marine Drive to Worli. The promenade, which is more than twice the length of Marine Drive’s iconic stretch, is designed with public use in mind, featuring 19 pedestrian underpasses, cycle tracks, benches, and eco-friendly amenities like bio-toilets and drinking water stations. Four underpasses will be operational initially, equipped with ramps for differently-abled individuals.

To accommodate the expected footfall, new bus bays and underground parking facilities have been set up, while strict security measures are in place.  With landscaping and long-term maintenance planned, it could soon become the city’s next iconic destination.
