The sleeper variant of the prestigious Vande Bharat Express completed its maiden trial run between Mumbai and Ahmedabad on Wednesday, marking another milestone in Indian Railways' modernisation efforts. Departing Ahmedabad at 7:29 AM, it reached Mumbai at 1:50 PM and began its return journey at 2:45 PM.

New Vande Bharat Sleeper train: Know key features

The 16-coach train, equipped with state-of-the-art features, completed the journey at a speed of 130 kmph. The prototype comprises 11 AC-3 tier coaches, 4 AC-2 tier coaches, and a luxurious First AC coach. Designed with passenger comfort in mind, features include separate charging ports, foldable snack tables, integrated lighting, and Braille navigation. For safety, the coaches are HL3 compliant and equipped with fire-resistant systems.

Trials conducted by the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) included a top speed of 180 kmph in Rajasthan. The final deployment decision will be made after completing additional trials and thorough safety evaluations. The final certification is anticipated next week, after which the details of the train's deployment will be finalised. If successful, the sleeper train is set to redefine luxury rail travel with its modern amenities and high-speed capabilities.
