Rains return to Mumbai! Orange Alert issued, week-long showers ahead

Intermittent rain is expected this week, with a heavy rainfall alert on August 26.

After a brief break, Mumbai is back under the cloud cover, with light to moderate rains forecasted for Monday, August 25. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts intermittent showers throughout the day and week, though with milder intensity compared to earlier this month.

An Orange Alert has been issued for South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, as a cloudy sky signals more rain ahead. Authorities and residents are on alert, bracing for another spell of rainfall.

Threat of disruption looms

Although the current rains are less intense than the August 19 deluge that caused severe flooding and travel disruptions, local train services on both Central and Western routes have remained unaffected, with no significant waterlogging reported.

On Sunday, scattered rainfall hit areas like Dadar, Andheri, and Borivali, but the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported no major traffic issues. However, IndiGo Airlines has issued a passenger advisory, alerting travellers to minor delays due to the ongoing rainfall.

However, the IMD has issued an orange alert for South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, warning of potential moderate to heavy rainfall that could lead to traffic disruptions. With intermittent rain expected to persist through the week, including a heavy rainfall alert for August 26, civic authorities remain vigilant against the possibility of flooding. Commuters are urged to stay updated on weather alerts and plan their journeys accordingly.
